Goosegrass is a very tough to control warm season summer annual. This weed clumps from a central tap root and has a very fibrous root system.  "Siliverish to whitish" coloration can be observed in the center of the plant, therefore, it is also referred as "silver crabgrass" or "wiregrass". Smooth leaf blades on both surfaces of the leave with membranous ligule at base of the leaf tip and occasionally, some hairs can be found at the base. The prostrate growth habit of goosegrass gives them the abiility to tolerate low mowing height.

Key Details

This grassy weed is found in temperate, subtropical and tropical areas of the world that predominates in exposed trafficked conditions. Goosegrass thrives very well in highly compacted area, they are commonly found in areas where there are high traffic in golf courses and sports field.

In tropical region, goosegrass can be found throughout the entire year. A single goosegrass plant can produce up to 50,000 seeds, failure to control early will resulted to increase in soil seedbank. Controlling this weed post-emergently can be challenging, pre-emergent herbicide like BARRICADE are found to be effective to control the weed population.
