E-TECH - THATCH TARGET FOR TURF DISEASE CONTROL
Golf greens currently contain surface thatch levels on average 60% higher than is desirable for optimal turf health and playability, according to the STRI.Click here to download and save a PDF of this E-Tech Bulletin Some parkland courses were reported with more than 25% organic matter in the top 20mm, compared to a target of four to six percent. Even links courses were found to have up to 12% organic matter extending down to 40mm from the surface, with an average 7% in the top 20mm that is still 40% above the target level.STRI agronomists warn excess organic matter retains greater moisture that leads to: High levels of thatch in greens surfaces pose a serious risk of earlier and more severe disease outbreak this season: Targeting spores in the thatch with well-timed proactive Medallion TL applications can help to: The aim is to limit disease pressure as early as possible. Results have clearly shown that going into the winter with clean turf gives the greatest chance of coming out…

Get a grip on Growth Potential
Turf growth is often wildly inconsistent through the spring. Understanding weather patterns for consistent growth is essential to help guide recovery from winter damage and to better time all management decisions. Turf Advisor gives you the data to decide.

Fuzz factors
This year’s relatively cool wet summer has also created the conditions for higher pathogen survival in thatch and soil, with the potential for earlier onset of disease
NemaTrident
NemaTrident is a range of beneficial entomopathogenic nematodes developed for targeted control of key soil-dwelling pests of sports and amenity turf - along with specific tools and agronomic strategies for consistent and effective results.

ET data drives soil moisture decisions
New techniques to manage soil moisture could enable more effective responsible and sustainable use of water resources, and further enhance integrated control of turf diseases. While soil moisture levels have historically often focussed on surface firmness and playability, new research and agronomy tools can enable greenkeepers to manipulate and maintain moisture in the root zone, to better support turf plant health and soil microbial activity, reports Syngenta Technical Manager, Sean Loakes. Key to the decision-making process and achieving more consistent control is better interpretation of evapotranspiration (ET) measures, and its specific application for turf surfaces. The Syngenta Turf Advisor app uses the internationally recognised Penman-Monteith equation that includes a crop coefficient for grass, which gives an infinitely more applicable figure compared to meteorological data calculating net evapotranspiration.Typically, irrigation recommendations on greens have been to continually replace 70% of…
